In ancient halls, such as the ruined Silem Horas Library in Selem or the Scholarly Parlour, the library of the main temple of the Church of Hesinde, treasures are stored that are not made of gold and silver, but of paper and parchment. Books are a precious commodity in Aventuria, as they often contain valuable knowledge, magical theories and secrets of great importance. Many works serve guild mages as a treasure trove of new spells, scholars to deepen their research, or the Horasian patricians for entertainment. Notorious books, such as the Chronicles of Ilaris, Borbarad's Testament or the Thirteen Praises of the Nameless One, are almost universally regarded as ominous or even forbidden works. Hardly any Aventurian can resist the fascination of books and many an author of exciting adventure of exciting adventure stories is celebrated like a hero.
