Sad Things On Index Cards

Index cards on the scene, 3x5 by default. Each card has a front and a back, each in its own ink, and the tabs that edit them are the two faces — selecting one turns the card over. A side can quote a journal entry, actor or item instead of holding its own words, and either side can carry clocks written under its text. Cards can be tied to one another with labelled lines, carry the tokens standing on them, and be written in the hand of whoever writes on them. Any player can pick up any card.
