Venger's Decks - Roadside Ruins
Roadside Ruins - An isometric scene featuring the roadside ruins of an abandoned settlement, long overgrown from behind by the encroaching woods. As the rain falls, the waves from the cold waters just down from the beach send a chilling mist across the ground, hugging the crumbling structures. The sunlight tries to break through the rain clouds above, but in this haunting place, any lingering hope for a bright day has long since departed.
Venger's Decks - Winterwood Steps
Winterwood Steps - Deep in the heart of a set of woods caked in snow, an old set of steps leads down into a crevasse in the rock. Around the steps the trees loom over the trail, large roots and boulders making the terrain difficult to move over. The steps look as though they were made rather than having been formed naturally, so there must be something down there, right? Something worth creating steps down to. Something worth...something, right?...
Venger's Decks - Woods Platform
Woods Platform - High in the trees, barely noticeable amid the mist, lies a hidden network of walkways and platforms protected by rudimentary palisade walls. Moss creeps onto their surface making it slippery, and as the breeze shifts, the flaps of ripped canvas awnings rustle gently, a brief pause of anticipation before the platform becomes bathed in blood. And then the rain begins to fall.
Venger's Decks - Goldrakon Realm
Goldrakon Realm - Entered via a set of steps or through a whirlpool of golden riches, this realm is home to the most golden of dragons. And her younglings. A structure bristling with shards of lightning rests on a golden sea of sorts. At its centre is a mound of gold, some of it seemingly being sucked from elsewhere into this realm. The 'shore' of this strange sea of gold cracks with energy, providing little welcome to those who tread upon it.
Venger's Decks - Abandoned Village
Abandoned Village - An otherwise serene location in which the party might stop and rest on its travels, with a lovely waterfall and flowing river over which extends a stable crossing, and on each side some buildings for shelter. Except on closer inspection, the buildings appear to have been long abandoned, and the sun beating down on the scene does little more than send shadows dancing into dark pockets of each structure.
Venger's Decks - Perilous Levels
Perilous Levels - An isometric nightmare of a dungeon battlemap. Whichever door is chosen, if the locks are picked and they manage to open there will be peril on the other side. A place to chill around a fire, but what's that scratching at the door? A glowing gem above a statue, a chess-like table on the floor, a stunning garden of plenty, a 10ft pit, and cobwebs everywhere together with every chance of becoming lost or trapped...or worse...
Venger's Decks - Pool of Souls
Pool of Souls - At the centre of this serene chamber rests a pool. Rich vines climb and grasp an open pergola. A number of golden crystals sprout from the soft, grass-coated platform surrounding the pool. Intricately-shined statues guard one side of the chamber. Steps lead up from the platform on each side of the pool, which is filled with a blue liquid flowing unlike water, and which through tiny holes beneath the surface, fills a surrounding external pool. A place to relax, to take in the beautiful milieu, to take a long rest. But perhaps there is more to this chamber than meets the eye.
Venger's Decks - Riverside Camp
Riverside Camp - The bubbling and rolling of a quiet river wakes this otherwise quiet campsite in a clearing in the woods, interrupted only by the crackling of a fresh campfire. Along with that, a few tents, a carriage, and some adventuring packs, is the suggestion the camp is inhabited. The river is spanned by a rickety wooden bridge very much in disrepair, and partially submerged along the north bank is a stepladder used perhaps for fishing. The morning sunlight breaks through the trees, adding to the sense of calm and restfulness.
Venger's Decks - Planar Crossing
Planar Crossing - Cutting beautifully through wild space, this living, almost breathing bridge links two realms. Colourful specks of light swirl ominously around the vacuum of this pocket dimension, passage through this dangerous crossing presenting in any given moment the potential of opening rifts, gravitational shifts, and the seeping in of astral creatures ill at ease with any interruption of their flight. At the junction of this crossing rests a celestial treelike structure that pulses with each step towards it.
Venger's Decks - Dungeon Vortex
Dungeon Vortex - I just love creating isometrics maps. They always remind me of my games as a kid, in tight dungeon spaces you couldn't swing a cat in never mind an axe, where around every corner danger might lurk. This one is a corridor leading into an arcane vortex that is either swallowing this portion of the dungeon or has been placed here deliberately to suck in any passing adventurer.
Venger's Decks - Dungeon Crossway
Dungeon Crossway - Deep in a network of underground tunnels sits a crossway, an intersection of corridors. The ground is crumbling and chocked with blood stains, the corridors lead towards two doors, one painted green and the other purple. Torches on the walls light the way, and although neither path from the cross section gives away any clue as to which corridor and door should be chosen, one must be walked nonetheless. Which will it be?
Venger's Decks - Embattled Bridge
Embattled Bridge - This one was for a recent commission, an epic final battle on a bridge to end a long-term campaign, with two damage variants as the bridge starts to get blown apart from bombardments by approaching vessels on the river below. The bridge itself is heavily fortified, with heavy weaponry positioned strategically in anticipation of the battle to come. A golden statue stands guard, overlooking the bridge and the fast-moving river beneath, as green flags flutter in the breeze. Whatever ends up happening on this crossing will be remembered for a long time!
Venger's Decks - Peredig's Haunt
Peredig's Haunt - The legend of Peredig, the mysterious sorcerer who vanished without a trace years ago, still prickles hair on the back of the neck. Whispers of his arcane prowess and eccentric experiments still linger in the town's folklore, a story told in hushed tones around flickering hearth fires. He was a reclusive figure, dwelling in a peculiar hideout deep within the heart of the woods. His solitary existence fuelled rumours of arcane secrets and forbidden knowledge. Townsfolk would occasionally catch glimpses of the old sorcerer as he roamed the forest, before he simply vanished without a trace. Some say he ascended to another plane, while others believe he succumbed to the very magic he wielded. In the heart of those woods, partially obscured by tangled vines and ancient trees, lies the remnants of Peredig's hideout, known now as the Haunt, for although locals speak of a mystic aura that shrouds the area, discouraging all but the bravest from approaching, whispers persist th
Venger's Decks - Deserted Beach
Deserted Beach - Docked at a port bathed in sunshine is a vessel ready to sail. Its sails bear the emblems for some unknown faction, and on deck are rotating cannons with ammunition, and a number of roped up small boats. More cannons protrude from holes in the hull. A crow's nest sits atop the mainsail, and the vessel appears well built. A fine choice on which to steal passage, no doubt!
Venger's Decks - Desert Temple
Desert Temple - An ancient, partially-ruined temple to some unknown deity, hidden within a rocky pass within the desert. Although it appears to have been constructed long ago, more recently there are signs that it is being used once again, with fabrics and well-tended plants on the bamboo-marked walkway towards the temple steps. The sand dunes, rocks, and structures that could be used as sentry posts provide levelled cover on the approach.
Venger's Decks - Dungeon Cellar
Cellar Dungeon - Some believe the cellar is the lowest part of the building, but look closer. Hidden amongst the debris, junk, and other innocuous storage items in the cellar is an entrance leading downstairs. If found, the steps lead down to a ledge at the edge of putrid water. On the ledge is a set of ruins, the abandoned remnants of an old chamber looking down the waters that vanish into the darkness of a tunnel. Who knows what might lurk down here.
Venger's Decks - Astral Islands
Astral Islands - Deep in the barren, infinitesimal outreaches of space and time, a few clumps of solid silvery matter have formed islands bridged together with potentially spurious wafts of energy. Rich with minerals fought over by the mining creatures who flock here now and again, who knows how long these islands will exist before being snuffed out by a rupture in time, before they reappear elsewhere.
Venger's Decks - Derelict Throne
Derelict Throne - The dungeon corridors lead into a chamber, at the far end of which up a set of stairs rests an ancient throne surrounded by rock formations, shafts of cold light reaching into the chamber from an as yet unknown source. Before this, however, is a large hole in the ground, through which can be seen a level below. In that level sits an obelisk illuminated by another source of light.
Venger's Decks - Jungle Steps
Jungle Steps - This jungle is alive with the sound of insects, rainfall, swooshing trees and vegetation, the water lapping up through an abandoned shipwreck and onto the rocks. From an ancient structure half-hidden in the treeline rises a set of broken steps onto a ledge overlooking the water. On the ledge, a tent has been erected recently, and from the vantage point up high here, the roof of a small tower can just be spotted within the dense jungle beyond.
Venger's Decks - Sky Gardens
Sky Gardens - The quiet bubbling of water and a faint breeze paints this scene with serenity. A set of wooden platforms, designed to depict the Kanji symbol for sky and above, provides passage over the water, connecting the gardens to a small eastern temple. Cherry blossom trees send into the air a sweet myriad of pink and red leaves, landing softly on the ground. Nothing could disturb this peace, right?
Venger's Decks - Wagon Barn
Wagon Barn - At the edge of town is a simple wagon barn. Need your ride fixed? Here's the place. Loose wheel nuts? Here's the place. Needing somewhere to hide from the law? Here's the place. Looking for a location to draw in your enemies just where you can pounce on them? Here's the place. It's a barn for all occasions, and is kitted out handily with escape options - just fit the harness to your carriage of choice, and off you trot!
Venger's Decks - Shadow Lake
Shadow Lake - The sky and its scattered clouds are mirrored on the clear water of this part of the lake, to some perhaps, a beautiful feature keeping at bay, for now, the creeping darkness of the woods of this realm. A pale light filters through the trees, emanating from bulbs of energy seemingly hovering amid the foliage, bringing attention to numerous threads of silvery webbing stretching here and there.
Venger's Decks - Labyrinthine Dimension
Labyrinthine Dimension - Existing in its own dimension around which has built up a vibrant city in the desert, this may look like the simplest of labyrinths. It is out in the open, with low walls, every feature, obstacle, and trap can be seen with ease, and the path to its centre can be worked out in but a moment. One question remains though. Why has only one soul ever survived it?
Venger's Decks - Ruined Graveyard
Ruined Graveyard - At the edge of a cold river and surrounded by barren trees, this once lavish graveyard has been long abandoned. Some of the gravestones have cracked open, nothing but darkness within, the graves perhaps robbed of its inhabitants some time ago. A creeping fog snakes on the ground, the muffled light from the still-lit lamp posts casting a sinister glow. And then the rain begins to fall...
Venger's Decks - Dark Woods Hamlet
Dark Woods Hamlet - In the midst of a dark forest lies a small hamlet, the track branching off here and there, with small cottages leading up to larger buildings at the centre. As the treeline opens up to reveal this hamlet, the pale light from above brightens the view, but this is no place for lightness and joy. The cottages appear abandoned, no people milling around, no black smoke rising from the chimneys, a low mist snaking through the trees. What happened here?...
Venger's Decks - Heskel's Crossing
Heskel's Crossing - A slow-moving river cuts through this otherwise silent hamlet, the throes of winter very much leaving its mark on the snow-covered streets, foliage, and buildings. A lone crossing spans the river, known locally as Heskel's Crossing after a poor soul who sacrificed his life by leaping from the bridge generations ago to save his pet dog, the bereaved dog having then spent the rest of her life sitting by the bridge until old age took her into the eternal night. Some say when the light breaks through the trees, a spectral vision of the man and his dog can be seen walking at peace across the bridge.
Venger's Decks - Woods Portal Strata
Woods Portal Strata - 3 dizzying map levels. First, you begin in the woods; you see some weird stuff in a clearing, maybe a swirling portal of some sort. Next, what, so you jumped right in? Ok, so now you're in some sort of weird in-between realm - serves you right! And hey, last of all, there you go, you broke the fragile skin between realms and now you're on a beach. Somewhere...
Venger's Decks - Gothic Fort
Gothic Fort - The well-trodden track leads from murky, dark woods, in through the settlement, and out the other end. The fort is protected by high sturdy walls, and a gate system on either end. Inside beyond the main street and market square, a gothic cathedral rests on top a hillock, the rest of the settlement populated with residential streets, shops, a tavern, offices, a market, and a cemetery. Outwith the walls lies farmland and housing.
Venger's Decks - Pirate Ruins Shore
Pirate Ruins Shore - On an otherwise empty shoreline, the ruins or wreck of a ship is spotted. Most of the vessel has broken off, leaving only the remnants of the bow and the ship's bell. The wreck is partially covered by palm trees, and as the water laps up onto the shore, beyond the trees and foliage can be spotted the stone ruins of an old settlement. The sunlight darts through the trees, warming the bow, the creaking of wood as it expands the only sound noted above the waves.
Venger's Decks - Dungeon Sewer
Dungeon Sewer - Deep in a network of underground tunnels sits a crossway, an intersection of corridors. The ground is crumbling and chocked with blood stains, the corridors lead towards two doors, one painted green and the other purple. Torches on the walls light the way, and although neither path from the cross section gives away any clue as to which corridor and door should be chosen, one must be walked nonetheless. Which will it be?
Venger's Decks - Ruinous Woods
Ruinous Woods - A fine day indeed in the midst of a set of vibrant woods, the setting sunlight warming the ruins of an ancient structure, perhaps a small house or sentry post. A dirt-caked, broken path leads up to and through the ruins within a clearing maybe perfect for setting up camp for the night. A beautiful tree stands guard at the ruins, rich with red apples just waiting to be picked, as the leaves in the trees sway gently in the breeze. Nothing could go wrong here, right?
Venger's Decks - Dungeon Waters
Dungeon Waters - A network of narrow dungeon corridors around streams and pools of water. The corridors are cut in two by the streams, perhaps capable of being jumped across, and the pools are divided by a narrow walkway under which the waters connect via a short tunnel. Mist rises from the water, the place lit eerily by lampposts. In one of the pools a gaping shaft leads down into darkness. What perils will the party face here?...
Venger's Decks - Docked Ship
Docked Ship - Docked at a port bathed in sunshine is a vessel ready to sail.
Venger's Decks - Hellish Dungeon
Hellish Dungeon - The steps keep descending deeper and deeper into the broken earth, the walls and humidity growing warmer, and then hotter, until the air becomes gradually more oppressive and the steps open up into a network of corridors. Some of the doors that are seen are locked, but if opened enter into arcane, torturous chambers in which lurk all manner of dark creatures. The corridors lead here and there, with steps and a trapdoor leading down further, but at the end of one passage an opening leads down steps and into the searing heat of a foul platform over bubbling, lava-like liquids, and a portal in which swirls flames and dark tendrils of energy.
Venger's Decks - Scraps From The Realm
Scraps From The Realm - 20 sample battle maps, including isometric interior, exterior, animated, and more you can use in your game. I've taken a sample of the 250+ of my older maps in the Venger's Realm Map Vault, and given them a fresh lick of paint so that you can get the most fun from them!
Venger's Decks - Dark Walkway
Dark Walkway - A long walkway closed in on both sides by brutal, dark vegetation, the ground scorched and stained, cracking open at points that sear with heat and boiling gases. At the end stands a portal or opening of some kind, a strong translucent energy pouring from it that is at the same time both enticing and repellent. The ground seems vulnerable when walked upon, rumours of spiked pits awaiting beneath the surface for those who tread forward without care.
Venger's Decks - Gothic Dungeon
Gothic Dungeon - This one was part of a recent map commission. The premise was that this was a network of underground corridors featuring rooms, office, store, and cells beneath a Gothic tavern, the guests mainly being vampires. Zoom in to catch all the detail! So you'll see that there are a number of private rooms with coffins for the vamps with better coin, and a larger chamber that's like a common room for those with less money to burn. There's also some beds for those with blood in their veins, an office for the manager, cells for those who've been causing havoc, and a well-stocked store room. If you look closely you'll also see some escape ladders out into the streets above.Entered via a set of steps or through a whirlpool of golden riches, this realm is home to the most golden of dragons. And her younglings. A structure bristling with shards of lightning rests on a golden sea of sorts. At its centre is a mound of gold, some of it seemingly being sucked from elsewhere into this re
Venger's Decks - Bridged Waterfall
Bridged Waterfall - Birds chirp happily in the colourful cherry blossom and maple trees, this captivating noise heard only barely over the noise of a powerful waterfall that surges into a river beneath an aged wooden sori bashi. The trunk of a large felled tree breaks the course of the river that begins its journey deeper into the forest, whilst here on the banks grows a myriad of wild flora relaxing in the soft breeze, the first signs of the fall approaching. A beautiful setting in which nothing life-threatening could happen, right?...
